Purpose

Recruit, hire, train and help retain qualified staff for Tribal Government operations. As well as provide personnel services that meet departmental needs in a manner consistent with Scotts Valley Band of Pomo Indians priorities and Native Preference goals.

Applicants

Those applying for all positions must possess a valid California Driver’s License and successfully pass a pre-employment drug screen and criminal background investigation. All applicants must have the ability to work with people from diverse cultures, ethnic and socio-economic backgrounds and must always maintain cultural sensitivity. Job Title:                   MMIP Program Coordinator

 

Department:              Social Services (MMIP 2 &3)

 

Supervisor:                Tribal Administrator

 

FSLA Status:             Non Exempt Full-Time

 

Salary:          G6/S1-G6/S3 DOE

 

SUMMARY:

Under the general direction of the Tribal Administrator, the MMIP Program Coordinator will perform tasks related to creating and maintaining relationships with community partners, while arranging educational presentations on resources for the tribal clients and the local community.  This position will be responsible for preparing and managing MMIP grant funds, ensuring deliverables are completed on time, and assisting with financial management, which includes LEP, and QPRs.  This position also requires scheduling, organizing, and facilitating ongoing classes and events.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

 

Community Education:

  • Build partnerships with local agencies to improve identification efforts.
  • Collaborate with outside agencies and community partners to bring awareness and education identified as needed.
  • Prevent victimization of all tribal citizens.
  • Amplify victimization of human trafficking in Native Communities.
  • Support MMIP activists to speak about Human Rights.

     

    Community Outreach and Awareness:

  • Develop digital and paper prevention materials.
  • Collaborate and coordinate with outside agencies for the MMIP Annual Event.
  • Coordinate and plan MMIP Wellness Walk to support those who have lost family members to violence.
  • Work with youth to determine the issues facing this population to promote violence prevention.
  • Coordinating the Men and Women Wellness Circles
  • Work with local law enforcement to activate Feather Alerts.

     

    Supportive Services:

  • Provide safety net services for vulnerable tribal populations.
  • Emergency shelter for vulnerable people, children and families.
  • Sober Living Environment-provided to prevent relapses for vulnerable families or individuals.
  • Substance abuse recovery support services- transportation to events.
  • Transporting victims of crime and their families to identified appointments within the 5 counties (Lake, Mendocino, Sonoma, Alameda, and Contra Costa).
  • Court Support- transportation to court appearances and court advocacy.

     

     Outcome Measurements:

  • Develop a database or website that identify vulnerable tribal members.
  • Collect data by utilizing photos, videos, sign-in sheets, testimonials, guest speakers, local press, and media posts.
  • Grant reporting.

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Continuous collaboration with the community, outreach, and cultural events.
  • Organizing and scheduling appointments/meetings
  • Assisting in organizing office activities, events, facilitating groups
  • Assisting all Tribal Members with needs and resources within the community
  • Photocopying, scanning and faxing documents
  • Proficient with Microsoft Suite (Word, PowerPoint, Outlook, Excel, TEAMS)
  • Processing written documents and correspondence
  • Maintaining a high degree of confidentiality
  • Time management skills and the ability to prioritize work
  • Communication skills - verbal and written
  • Case coordination with team members
  • Other developmental duties as assigned

     

    OTHER RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Other duties that may be delegated from time to time.

     

    QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS: 

     

    The successful candidate must possess:

  • Clear and concise verbal and written skills.
  • Knowledge of relevant software applications including MS Office
  • Ability to work effectively, either independently or cooperatively with others

     

  • Ability to maintain confidentiality
  • Intercultural sensitivity
  • Strong interpersonal skills
  • Community outreach skills with an emphasis of professionalism and public speaking
  • Must be able to use all forms of office equipment including computers, telephones, calculators, copiers, and a FAX machine.
  • An understanding of professionalism in the workplace
  • An understanding of historical trauma as it relates to Native Americans

      

    In addition, qualified applicants shall have as a minimum

     

    Meet one of the following qualifications:

  • Have obtained a Bachelor of Arts or Sciences Degree
  • Two years- on-the-job experience working with victims or case management.
  • Have a valid vocational training certificate, credential, or documentation demonstrating that the individual has knowledge in victimization advocacy.
  • Have relevant life experience with children who have experienced high levels of trauma.
  • A successful background check, including drug and alcohol screening, Livescan, and criminal history clearances
  • A valid class “C” California Driver’s License
  • Reliable transportation.

 

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Must be able to sit for extended periods with frequent standing and walking.

DRUG FREE WORKPLACE:

Scotts Valley Band of Pomo Indians (SVBPI) will not allow or condone drug or other substance abuse in the workplace. SVBPI insist on a workplace free from alcohol, prescribed or other drug abuse and their effects.

 

  • Employees must disclose to the Tribal Administrator the use of any prescription drugs along with the stated potential side effects of taking those drugs. It shall be the sole discretion of the SVBPI whether the employee can use prescribed drugs and still effectively and safely work in the SVBPI offices or other Tribal employment areas.

     

  • SVBPI drug free workplace substance abuse policies are based on Federal law and more particularly the Federal Controlled Substance Act, which among other things defines marijuana as an illegal drug whether it is used for medical purposes or not. State of California laws related to medical marijuana use do not apply for those working in any of the Tribe’s offices. Being in possession of a Medical Marijuana Certification does not excuse SVBPI employees from the strict Federal and Tribal policies on marijuana use.

 

AT-WILL EMPLOYMENT:

  • The Scotts Valley Band of Pomo Indians (“Scotts Valley”) employment policy is at will. Under the at-will policy, neither the employee nor the Scotts Valley Tribal Council is committed to continuing the employment relationship for any specific term. Rather, the employment relationship will continue at-will.
  • Either side may terminate the relationship at any time, with or without cause and with or without notice. The Scotts Valley Tribal Council also retains the right to demote, transfer, change employee job duties, and change employee compensation at any time with or without notice and with or without cause in its sole discretion. In deciding to work for the Scotts Valley, or continue to work for the Scotts Valley, you must understand and accept these terms of employment.
